Also due to
measures that have dramatically increased the production of “audiovisual works” e
practically canceled the windows between the exit to the room and the subsequent television broadcasts.
For this it is necessary that as soon as possible, as requested also by important exponents of the
distribution and parliamentary representatives, an appropriate interval is introduced between the exit to
cinema and that of platforms of at least 180 days, just as we need to think of a plan
extraordinary three-year period that aims to win back the public.
Also giving a
right following the words spoken by President Mattarella on the occasion of the David di
Donatello, to safeguard the social, aggregative and cultural role of the rooms
At the moment when the Cannes Film Festival is about to start, it is once again the great
showcase of European and world auteur cinema, the Italian Federation of Essay Cinemas
(FICE) invites us to ask ourselves about the state of difficulty that continues to grip the cinema of
our country, in particular due to the non-return to the theater of a large portion of the public who
had attended cinemas before the pandemic.
After more than two years, and after the restrictive measures adopted by the government which they included
even long periods of closure and which have no comparison with the rest of the European countries, has arrived
the time to reverse the trend with respect to a trend that can and must be stopped, under penalty of
endangering the heritage of Italian cinemas. Heritage fortunately
still made up of hundreds and hundreds of theaters that are committed to programming cinemas
by author and art house, and which today are those most in difficulty, also due to
lack of films capable of intercepting an audience tired of repetitive works, perhaps think more
for a television audience and for the cinema audience.
This is also due to
measures that have dramatically increased the production of “audiovisual works” e
practically canceled the windows between the exit to the room and the subsequent television shows.
Donatello, to safeguard the social, aggregative and cultural role of the cinemas.
Only a great process that sees the Ministry of Culture rethink the investments intended
to the cinema, by really putting the function of the cinema back at the center, it can give back
impetus to a production that is too flattened on audiovisual works of little interest for the
cinema audience. It is necessary to do it now, also taking advantage of the Cannes showcase, where they will be
present some of our most important authors, starting with Martone and Bellocchio.
“The FICE – declares the President Domenico Dinoia -, together with all the associated rooms, will do
all to continue giving visibility to independent and arthouse cinema as required by the
cinema law, to promote film culture and guarantee a pluralism of offer that
make room for all cinemas, starting with young Italian talents “.
