progress gradually by committing yourself to all the steps necessary for your project or the achievement of your goal. One step at a time.
I Ching – General Description
The sign is made up of Sunn (wood, penetration) above or outside, and Kenn (mountain, stillness) below or inside. A tree on a mountain develops slowly and according to fixed laws; consequently it is firmly rooted. Thus is the idea of development that progresses gradually step by step. The qualities of the figures also hint at it: inside there is tranquility which protects against head blows, and outside the penetration which makes development and progress possible.
I Ching – Comment on sentence
Development. The girl is given in marriage. Health! Auspicious is perseverance.
Hesitant is the evolution that leads the girl to follow her husband into his home. The various formalities must be completed before the marriage takes place. This gradual development can also be transferred to other situations, always in the case of correct collaborative relationships, for example the hiring of an official: it is necessary to wait for the correct development to be completed. A hasty move would not be well done. Finally, the same thing is true when one wants to influence others. There too it is a correct path of evolution through the cultivation of one’s personality. Any insistent influence ends up not acting. Internally, too, development must take the same path if lasting results are to be achieved.The meek, adaptable yet penetrating, it is the exterior that must proceed from the inner stillness. It is precisely the gradualness of development that requires the presence of constancy. Since only constancy causes slow progress to end up not withering away.

On the mountain is a tree: The image of development. Thus the noble dwells in dignified virtue To improve the morals.
The tree on the mountain can be seen from far away, and its development affects the landscape of the entire region. It does not grow visibly like swamp plants, but its growth occurs gradually. An action on men can also be only gradual. No sudden influx or awakening is permanent. Slowly progress must take place. To achieve this progress in public opinion, in social mores, it is necessary that the personality gain influence and weight. This happens by working with care and constancy on one’s own moral evolution.

I Ching – First line:
Six at the beginning means:
The royal goose gradually approaches the shore. The young son is in danger. We chat. No stains.
The single lines all have as their image the gradual flight of the real goose. The royal goose is the symbol of marital fidelity. It is said of her that after the death of her husband she no longer joins anyone else. The first line shows the first stop on the journey of these water birds from the water to the heights. The shore is reached. The situation is similar to that of a young man who wants to start making his way in life. Because he has no one to meet him, his first steps are slow and hesitant, and he is surrounded by dangers. Of course he is criticized a lot. But it is precisely the difficulties that prevent him from advancing hastily, and thus his progress begins well.

The rock is a safe place not far from the shore. Development has taken a step forward. We have come out of the initial embarrassment and found a secure position in life, for which there is no lack of the necessary means to live. This first success, which opens the way to the possibility of acting, puts a certain joy in the soul, and we walk calmly towards the future.

Nine in the third place means:
The royal goose gradually approaches the plateau. The husband leaves the house and never comes back. The wife carries a baby in her womb but does not give birth. Woe! It is auspicious to repel marauders.
Of the royal goose it is said that it calls its mates when it finds food; this is the image of peace and harmony in luck. You don’t want to keep happiness all to yourself, but you are ready to share it with others. The arid plateau is not made for the royal goose; if it transmigrates it has lost its way and has gone too far. This is contrary to the law of evolution. This is also the case in human life. Not letting them develop quietly, but throwing themselves headlong into the fight on a whim, this brings misfortune. His life is up for grabs, and the family falls apart. But this is not at all necessary, indeed it is only the consequence of not having obeyed the law of natural evolution.Not seeking the fight, but merely defending one’s place vigorously and repelling unjust attacks.
I Ching – Fourth line:
Six in the fourth place means:
The royal goose gradually approaches the tree. Perhaps it reaches a flat branch. No stains.
The tree is not a place that is suitable for the royal goose. But if she is smart she finds a flat branch on which she can stand. In life we often arrive during evolution even in situations that do not correspond to us in which we can hardly keep ourselves safe. It is therefore important to be cunning and compliant. And even in the midst of danger, a safe place to live can be found.
I Ching – Fifth line:
Nine in the fifth place means:
The royal goose gradually approaches the summit. The wife does not get pregnant for three years. Finally, it can no longer prevent anything. Health!
The peak is a high place. In a high place one easily ends up being isolated. We are misunderstood by the one who should be our support; the wife by her husband, the official by her lord. Cause of this is fake people who got in the way. Consequently, relationships remain sterile and nothing is accomplished. But evolution brings with it that these misunderstandings dissolve and that in the end the union happens the same.

The royal goose gradually approaches the high clouds. Its feathers can be used for sacred dances. Health!
Here life is over. The work is being done before us. High in the sky rises the path that is followed like the soaring of the flight of real geese when they have abandoned all contact with the earth. And they fly, and maintain the order of flight by forming figures with severe lines. And when their feathers fall to the ground they can be used as an ornament in the sacred pantomines danced in the temple. Thus the life of a man who has come to an end is a clear light for the men of the earth who look up to him as a model.
