However, many I CHING scholars believe that putting together multiple responses of the mobile lines is still a source of confusion and that it is therefore always necessary to arrive at a single response. To this end, Alfred Huang, in his book The complete I Ching (Inner Traditions, Rochester Vermont 2004, p.17), proposes the following method, which seems interesting to us:

  • if there are two moving lines, one yin and one yang, only
  • if there are two moving lines, both yin or yang, only the lower of the two is consulted.
  • if there are three mobile lines, only the one in the middle position is consulted.
  • if there are four movable lines, only the highest line between the two non-movable lines is consulted.
  • if there are five mobile lines, only the remaining, non-m
  • if there are six movable lines, only the general texts of the second hexagram are consulted (except in the case of hexagram 1. The Creative and 2. The Receptive which foresee a particular sentence in the case of six movable lines

First of all it must be said that the I Ching must be consulted only for important matters. In fact it is necessary to ask questions that do not consist in a simple curiosity about future events but which always concern the personal orientation to be taken towards a situation.
Below, the most important phrase to learn before doing any further study on the I Ching:

“Examine the words first,
meditate on all they mean,
the fixed norms then reveal themselves.
But if you’re not the right man,
the meaning is not revealed to you.

Traditional practices also recommend that we burn incense and address the oracle with deference, saying your name, the place where you live, what you want to achieve and for what purpose.
It is a ritual that aims to promote concentration and calm the mind.

Beyond respecting the ritual, the important thing is to keep your mind free from extraneous thoughts and focus only on the question you intend to ask.
There are several ways that tradition teaches us to consult the Oracle.

There are two methods that tradition indicates to us for consulting the I CHING:
– the method of the three coins , which is today the most used in both the East and the West and is relatively simple in its procedure.
– the method of the yarrow stems , which represents the traditional method, more complex and articulated.

Both methods have the purpose of generating, through a series of random events, one of the 64 hexagrams of the I CHING, that is a figure composed of six lines (whole or broken) which is always constructed from the bottom up (it is considered that is, the lower one as the first line and the upper one as the sixth line).

The Book of Changes (易經 T, 易经 S, YìjīngP, I ChingW ), also known as Zhou Yi 周易 or The Changes (of the Zhou dynasty), is considered the first of the classical Chinese. It is indeed necessary to go back in time up at the birth of the Chinese empire.
He survived the destruction of libraries by the First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang Di.

The Yijing is divided into two parts. Jing 經 or ‘classic’ and zhuan 傳 or ‘comment’, composed at different times but handed down as a single text for about two millennia. The jing portion is made up of sixty-four units, each based on a hexagram (gua 卦) made up of six lines that are continuous (⚊) representing the yang principle. Interrupted (⚋) representing the yin principle.
For each hexagram there is an explanation called 卦 辞 guaci. This is accompanied by the explanation of the individual lines that make up the trigram called 爻 辞 yaoci.
Besides, the first two hexagrams of the text 乾 qian and 坤 kun are accompanied by two other texts called 用 六 yongliu and 用 九 yongjiu.

We were….

We were therefore saying that it is one of the most important works of world literature. We know that it comes from the most remote times in which Chinese civilization was born. Probably already existed much more than before our Western religious experience and over the times it has influenced the paths and schools of incredible personalities of Chinese culture. Such as Confucius and Lao Tsë who, in turn, contributed to the depth that such an incredible text can now have.

It is considered an oracle, an experience of Truth, that of someone looking for an answer while remaining closely linked to the relationship of that moment. Tied to the present, proposing himself in the correct state of mind to face the future and the often incoherent and confused dynamics of our society in an upright and balanced way. Always without losing sight of oneself and one’s nature.
